The cultural heritage of the Costa Brava highlights the legacy of its two major figures who are universally renowned; the artist, Salvador Dalí and his museum in Figueres and the writer, Josep Pla and his Foundation in Palafrugell. Apart from these places, this region has many interesting museums such as the Vila Casas Foundation in Torroella (photo) and Palafrugell (sculpture), the Girona Art Museum, the Catalonia Toy Museum in Figueres or the Cinema Museum in Girona. During the summer months, the Costa Brava is the setting for several music festivals which have attracted international figures in the world of music such as Diana Krall, Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones, Sting, George Benson, Tom Jones and Julio Iglesias. There are also classical music events with international formations and soloists such as Josep Carreras, Jessye Norman, Joaquin Achúcarro, Zubin Metha and Daniel Barenboim, to mention just a few. In the summer, there are also a whole host of popular Catalan music recitals: sardanas, habaneras and town dances. Should you be in the Costa Brava on the first Saturday in July, it is well worth attending the habaneras recital in Calella de Palafrugell.
